Create Peace
My husband and I just watched a movie called “Peace by Chocolate,” recommended by our daughter. She said that it was a true story and we might like it. The story is about a Syrian family in Canada that struggles to preserve their culture and rebuild the Chocolate business they left behind in Syria. It is a touching story of the triumph of one over prejudice. The movie was released in 2021.
What I’m finding in this upside-down world is that we have many excellent and caring people. However, I’m always saddened when I read or hear anyone being prejudiced about other cultures, tearing down people who are different from us, or saying that immigrants are lazy and are taking our jobs.
Let’s think about that for a moment.
We are all immigrants, and if we reflect and are honest, we will realize how many come here, work hard for less pay, and help our economy.
I enjoyed this movie for several reasons. First, I observed how many people suffer in horrific situations but deal with their challenges and find ways to live above the misery. (Like, the Ukrainian people.). Second, I noticed how many people reach out, care, and help uniquely. Third, I was also impressed to see how people acknowledged failure and came around to finding redemption. Finally, his movie made me think about how blessed I am and to remember to reach out and care for others more often.
“If you judge people, you have no time to love them.” ~Mother Teresa
“Through your kindness to others, your mind and heart will open to peace.” ~ Dalai Lama
“When you callously ignore the suffering of others, you lose the capacity to share their happiness, too.” ~Albert Schweitzer
This sounds like a movie we would enjoy. How did you access it? In theatre or on TV – if so, which venue? We love success stories that celebrate love. Unfortunately, it seems that right now, Canada is more welcoming to immigrants than the U.S. I dearly hope things will change for the better here in our wounded country.
